How to create the no makeup makeup trend.
As we ease out of lockdown in the U k this is my go-to look when meeting up with friends or family in the actual flesh. After wearing next to no makeup for three months it’s so nice to put a bit of makeup on. Just a little bit of makeup can make a huge difference and improve your appearance and confidence. We don’t want to go in with a dark smoky eye and a red lip after wearing no makeup at all it will feel overdone but also not on-trend at all.
Many celebs are rocking this barely-there monochromatic style of makeup which picks up elements from your natural colouring and uses this in the tones of makeup. This look uses warm nude tones and enhances and sculpts your natural features to create an understated but sexy look. Khloe Kardashian rocked this look for her recent Birthday and Beyonce has been wearing this look for years. Working for MAC for many years we used to call this a ‘Prime’ look and would be the go-to look if the client had no idea what makeup look they wanted to go for but wanted to look like they were wearing a little bit of makeup. I would pick a monochromatic palette and a nude for their skin tone lip. Every client would love the look as it’s tailored to the individual and so wearable.
This look sculpts and defines the natural contours of your face using soft nude shadows and bronze shimmers it’s all about perfect application. To find your perfect colour palette consider the undertone of your skin and also eye colour, this everyday makeup look is about using the same colour but in different tones all over the face. If you have a cool undertone avoid yellow hues, steer away from oranges. If you have a warm undertone look for peachy pink shades, warm reds and warm browns.
Clothes also being paired back and more simple after all the time we have spent in lockdown it’s no wonder we just want to look our best without being over the top. As weddings can now go ahead again with a small guest list this is also the perfect wedding makeup look.
How to achieve the look:
Once you know your skin undertone keep the look monochromatic by using the same tones for your eyes cheeks and lips. This creates a harmonious cohesive look and will keep your look bang up to date with the latest makeup trend.
If you have a warm undertone go for a golden brown eyeshadow paired with a brown nude lip and a warm peachy blush I love the Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush in Fuego Flush.
If you have more of a cool undertone choose bronze shades with a grey undertone and match it with a pink blush with a blue undertone like NARS blush in shade impassioned. Finish the look with just a clear gloss.
Contouring your eyes.
For this look start by applying eyeshadow to the crease of your eyes with a soft tapered brush like the MAC #224 go for a shade two shades deeper than your natural skin tone. This instantly adds dimension to the eye and creates a contrast to the eyelid. You can wing this shadow outward to the tail end of your brow this is a trick I use all the time to accentuate the eyes and make appear wider.
After contouring your socket you can choose to keep it matte or add dimension with shimmer which will open up the eye area. You can amp up this look by adding individual lashes I like the individual lashes from Primark for an everyday kind of look or if you want to splash put a bit more the Swedish lashes are amazing.
How to apply the perfect nude lip for you.
Again it’s all about how you apply the nude lip to create the perfect shape for you. I use this makeup hack all the time to naturally contour my client’s lips, start by taking a nude-toned lip pencil and line the outer edge of your lips, then fill in the entire lip this creates a long-lasting base for the lipstick. You can overdraw the lip to make it look bigger but just do it gradually. I love MAC Oak lip liner for a brown nude or more of a pink tone Soar is always a staple in my kit.
Next, apply your nude lipstick I like to go slightly lighter than the lip liner. Next, complete the contour by applying an even lighter shade of lipstick to the centre of the lip to create a fuller lip. Anything light brings forward and anything dark pushes back. For an even fuller look apply a gloss to the centre of your lips with your finger to enhance the light shade of lipstick.
