Bridal Makeup Trends for 2024

Finally, Summer is here in the Uk! As wedding season comes to a start let’s talk about the bridal makeup trends, I think will be a big hit in 2024!

Natural Glow Trend

Natural Glow

This is what every bride I have ever made up wants a natural glow but created through products and to last through the day into night. Think skin is the focus and like it’s been lit from within. With a natural fresh but flawless glow. A radiance rather than a flat matte finish or even shiny look. A subtle glow not a shimmery sparkle or any harsh strobing like in previous seasons. The two are very different!  Products must blend flawlessly into each other with a smooth glowy finish no harsh lines or edges. This is my signature skin look to do and my most requested whether it be for TV, shoots or brides that want to stay on trend but still look like themselves.

Product Recommendations to create the Natural Glow Trend.

Primers: Try glow – boosting options like Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter, Milk Hydro Grip Primer, Laura Mercier Bare Canvas.

Foundations: Dewy foundations with still a bit of coverage include: Nars Light Reflecting foundation, Armani luminous silk, Dior backstage face and body foundation.

Concealers: Use hydrating and lightweight ones like Nars Radiant Creamy, Tarte Maracuja Creaseless

Setting Sprays: Finish with mists like MAC prep and prime for a luminous look.

Powder:  I still always powder the skin especially down the centre of the face there is a difference between glowy and sweaty. My trusted no fail powder which never leaves my kit is the Laura Mercier translucent powder, and they also do one called candlelight which has a subtle glow but all sets.

Application Tips:

Use a damp makeup sponge rather than brush to blend out base makeup seamlessly whilst retaining moisture and shine on the high points of the face.

Mix liquid/cream highlights like MAC Strobe cream into foundation on hand before applying for an all-over lit from within glow.

Use your fingers to press and tap cream stick highlights like Milk Makeup Highlighter onto cheekbones, brow bones, cupid's bow.

Set only select areas like t-zone and laugh lines with minute amounts of finishing powder to reduce excess shine while keeping skin radiant.

This look combines two trends of the moment. The Natural Glow and Monochromatic Moments. I wanted the makeup to be seamless and smooth with a monochromatic hue.

Statement Eyes:

Bold, colourful eyeshadow looks will be popular for brides who want to make their eyes pop in photos and stand out from the everyday bride.  Expect to see bright jewel tones, metallic shimmers, graphic eyeliner and false lashes. The eyes have always been a big focus for wedding makeup but in 2024 it ramps up a stage with colour being incorporated into this growing trend. With more and more brides wanting an individual eclectic look to their wedding outfits and whole theme of the day it’s no surprise that the bold statement eye is coming through as a strong bridal trend for 2024.

Product recommendations:

- Glittery or metallic eyeshadows in shades like gold, rose gold, silver, etc. Apply these all over the lid and in the inner corners of the eyes. Huda Beauty and Natasha Denona make great wearable palettes incorporating metallics and matte shades.

Matte colours: Go for a bright colour as a block all over the eye paired with a mascara and a neutral eyeliner to define the eye. Or think 60’s with a cool wash of colour over the eye in a lilac or a blue.

- False eyelashes with a flare or volume for drama. Ardell and House of Lashes have bridal collections. Or I love an individual lash to give just enough definition that you don’t know if lashes are natural and amazing or indeed fake.

Monochromatic Moments:

Matching eye makeup, lips and blush to create a fashion-forward monochromatic moment will be huge. This allows the bride to pick a signature colour and rock different tones and textures of the same shade. I have been creating monochromatic makeup looks for years and it suits everyone. Pick a colour specific to your skin tone then use different tones of that shade for all your makeup, what’s not to love?! I sometimes use the lipstick as a blush also just dab a bit on to the high cheek bone and set with powder if you need to. Eyes with a wash of colour and a darker shade of the same tone blended onto the contour is my go-to monochromatic eye style.
