Natural Every Day Makeup

In 2021 makeup is all about skin that actually looks like skin. If you know my makeup style you will know I have been a fan of this look for a while. In 2020 everything slowed down and we had more time to focus on self-care and therefore skincare. So gone are the days of heavy editing and welcome to real skin which means freckles, pores, texture and everything else that real skin is.

With a whole year of staying at home and wearing less makeup we have also had more time to dedicate to a consistent skincare regime, our skin is looking better than ever and it’s time to show it off.  Natural makeup is a huge trend for 2021 and minimal makeup is here to stay. Skincare will continue to play an important part. We have had to be our own skin experts at home for a year and skincare sales have increased considerably because of it.

Get ready to add lightweight tinted moisturisers cream highlighters and natural concealer application to your makeup bag. It’s going to be glowy all the way! But don’t panic the days of a strong makeup look have not left us. We will see a rise in bold Smokey eyes paired with natural skin since we will be wearing masks for the foreseeable future. Natural glowy skin is in but wear whatever makeup makes you feel comfortable and confident.

Natural makeup should be easy to recreate after all its natural. But in fact, it can be the hardest look to achieve as we are all so used to covering our imperfections as appose to celebrating them.

To give you an idea here are some of my favourite natural skin focused makeup looks around at the moment.

Follow my tips to pair back your makeup and enhance your skin.

1.      Foundation

Add a moisturiser to your foundation to create a lightweight formula but without having to go out and buy a new product. Just mix a small 5p size on the back of your hand with your normal foundation. I love MAC strobe cream as well and you can apply this before your foundation or mix it with your foundation to create that glow but without looking like the tin man.

2.      Pair back on the Concealer.

I love concealer but we all have a tendency to go overboard with the application. This can look cakey and creates a build-up of the product. Instead, try to apply less product and only on the areas you really need it. So for under the eye just look at the darkest area you need covering and don’t cover the whole of the under-eye area. In fact, I like to just apply on the outer corner and inner corner with the MAC 218 brush to give a softer more natural application.

3.      Multi-Purpose Products

Applying makeup is an art at the end of the day so don’t be afraid to use products where they are not necessarily designed to be used. For example, if I’m doing natural makeup on myself I will use the bronzer as an eyeshadow and apply it to the socket line with an eyeshadow blending brush to give a little bit of definition and bring the whole look together without it looking overly done. 4.      Natural Eyeliner

Opt for definition, not drama. Apply eyeliner to the top waterline of your lash. Or as I like to call it a tight line as it’s so close to your lashes it doesn’t even look like a line. Now, this is difficult to do if you are not used to applying liner on the inside of your eye but you do get used to it. I like to use an angle brush and a gel liner and just really press the liner onto the upper waterline it makes such a difference to your makeup. I literally do this on every client even if they are not wearing any eyeshadow. Alternatively, you can use a pencil something like the MAC Pro Longwear pencil as it doesn’t move once you have applied it. If it does transfer to your bottom waterline just use a cotton bud to remove it. I always use black or dark brown.

5.      Contour

Contouring can be natural and is so simple to do. Don’t be intimidated by the Instagram tutorials where they use a million products. It should look natural and like it’s part of your skins natural contours and highlights. It’s a good idea to use a darker face powder than you would normally use or I love Harmony Blusher by MAC which works as a contour on so many skin tones. If you do use a bronzer just make sure it’s not too orange and has a cooler undertone to it. Sweep your powder under your cheekbone running from the top of your ear towards but not touching the corner of your lip. It works so well and I use this technique on all of my bridal clients.
